(October 27, 2009) – Rollins was ahead by a stroke after the first day and ran away from the field in the final round, posting a seven shot victory at the Ross Resorts Invitational at Mid Pines Tuesday.
The third ranked Tars held off top ranked Nova Southeastern over the final 18 holes in the star-studded event, hosted by Rollins and Peggy Kirk Bell (Rollins class of 1943) at Mid Pines Resort in Southern Pines, North Carolina.
Rollins carded scores of 300-301 on the first day and held a one shot lead over the rival Sharks. The Tars saved their best for last, shooting the event’s best round with a 12 over 296 for a final score of 897. Nova posted a score of 904 (304-298-302) while Eastern Michigan finished third with 917 (300-308-309) strokes. Georgetown (934) and Akron (935) rounded out the top-five of the 10-team field.
Sandra Changkija of NSU led from wire to wire, shooting a four-under 212 (70-69-73).
Joanna Coe wrapped up her stellar fall season with a runner-up finish to lead the Tars. The junior shot rounds of 75 and 71 on Monday, then came back with a 74 Tuesday for a four-over score of 220. (September 20, 2009) – Playing in her home state of New Jersey, Rollins junior Joanna Coe shot a final round 71 to post a two shot victory and lead the 2nd ranked Tars women’s golf team to a win at the season opening Princeton Invitational on Sunday.
Rollins was tied for second after a first round 305 on Saturday, even with Penn and four shots back of leader Harvard. The Tars then hung a final round 297, the second best team score of the tournament, to finish with 602 strokes and a five shot win over Harvard. Host Princeton, behind a final round 294, was third while Penn in fourth and Bucknell in fifth rounded out the top of the leader board.
Coe, a Mays Landing, New Jersey native, opened play with a three-over par 75 on Saturday afternoon to sit in a tie for fourth. The two-time All-American came back on Sunday to post the only red number of the tournament with a one-under 71 for a final score of 146 and two shot win over Harvard’s Christine Cho and Princeton’s Anna Jang. The win was the sixth of Coe’s banner career at Rollins, which also includes an NCAA Division II National Championship her freshman season.

The clinics are held every Friday at 4pm at Blue Heron Pines and include one hour of golf instruction from the professionals at the Blue Heron Pines Golf Academy (David Lee, Scott Sterling and Bruce Chelucci), as well as golf specific training from the Tilton Fitness trainers.
